Welcome to fishlarvae.com!
These web pages present an overview of the research activity being conducted at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research by Howard Browman and Anne Berit Skiftesvik, and our students, Post-Doctoral Associates, Research Associates, and Collaborators. We also provide some general information on the early life stages of marine fish and shellfish, and links to other web pages that might be useful to those interested in such matters.

From July - September 2010 Howard Browman and Anne Berit Skiftesvik will be on sabbatical at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Mont-Joli, Québec (working with Stéphane Plourde) and at the University of Maine's Gulf of Maine Research Institute (working with Jeffrey Runge). We will be developing a pan-Atlantic collaboration on climate-change-related effects on the relative abundance of the Calanus species complex and how this might affect the early life stages of fish larvae that feed upon their nauplii.
From 2 November - 11 December 2009 Howard Browman and Anne Berit Skiftesvik were on sabbatical at the University of Hong Kong's School of Biological Sciences and Swire Institute of Marine Science. We delivered a series of lectures on marine ecology and aquaculture and worked on the effect of ocean acidification on the larvae of marine organisms with V. Thiyagarajan.

The Proceedings of the 2008 Larval Fish Conference - Advances in early life history study of fish, Edited by Catriona Clemmesen, Arne M. Malzahn, Myron A. Peck and Dietrich Schnack - has been published as a special volume of Scientia Marina. Click HERE to download the papers.
Howard Browman has been appointed as ICES's representative on the Scientific Steering Committee of the conference “Ecosystems 2010: Global progress on ecosystem-based fisheries management”, which is the 26th Lowell Wakefield Fisheries Symposium to be held in November 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska, USA. Howard Browman will present the keynote lecture, entitled "The ecosystem approach to managing aquatic resources has alot to do with management but little to do with ecology or ecosystems".
